Ms. Leonard's 2019-2020 season is marked by debuts, including her house and role debuts as Gilda in Austin Opera's Rigoletto, the title role in Tobias Picker's Emmeline with Opera Oklahoma, and a return to Seattle Opera as Gilda in Rigoletto.
Ms. Leonard reprises the role of Gilda in her house debut with Austin Opera. This tragic story revolving around the unscrupulous Duke of Mantua, his hunch-backed court jester Rigoletto, and Rigoletto’s stunning daughter Gilda is considered to be one of Verdi’s operatic masterpieces. Rigoletto is consumed by his thirst for revenge, but his innocent daughter Gilda pays the ultimate price.
